Next steps & optional upgrades

Now that you have your JagDroid system installed in your car, you can configure the software to your preference and add some optional extras. Some suggested customisations are detailed below:

Car Launcher Pro

The first App I recommend is Car Launcher Pro. This replaces the standard Android launcher and provides a user interface that is specifically designed to run on a car touchscreen system. It has a number of 'skins' for a different look, and each of them can be customised to your preference. Download it on your JagDroid system directly from Google Play:

TomTom GPS Navigation Traffic

There are a number of Navigation apps available, including Google Maps, Waze etc. Many of these require a continuous data connection to use the map and navigation data, but my preference is TomTom Navigation, which downloads the entire map data for use offline when you have no data connection available. If a data connection is available, then it will display live traffic information and re-route accordingly. It's the same system that runs on the TomTom hardware navigation systems, and in my opinion has the best user interface and navigation of them all, however it is a paid App and you can buy a 1 year or 3 year subscription. Download it on your JagDroid system directly from Google Play:

Internet access

Configure your phone as a Personal Hotspot to provide internet access to your JagDroid system via WiFi . Alternatively you can use a 4G 'Mifi' type device with a data SIM for dedicated Internet access so you don't need to rely on your phone

Reversing Camera

The JagDroid video controller has 2 x composite video inputs, one designed for a reversing camera with a reverse trigger input to activate it on selecting reverse gear, and another input which can be used for a front camera (or anything else). You can manually switch to the reverse camera by double-pressing the Rear Defrost button, and the front camera with the Front Defrost button. (Note, you must wire the power for the camera into switched live to allow this to work, so that it is always powered when the ignition is on).

For auto-swtching on reverse, because the Jaguar reversing lamps work on a negative switched signal, (that is, one side of the bulb is connected directly to +12v, and the car switches the other side down to ground to illuminate the lamp) a relay is required to convert this negative switched signal to a +12v trigger input that the video controller requires. This can be achieved very simply with a relay:

DAB Radio

DAB Digital Radio can be added by plugging in a USB DAB+ module such as this one:

Signal quality will vary depending on the antenna used. One user recommends this antenna (for steel bodied cars only):

Download the DAB App to your JagDroid system directly from Google Play:

USB Storage for Music/Video

A very simple addition is plugging in a normal USB stick with Video or Audio files on it. The built in 'Music' App works fine for playing back MP3 and other files, but some people prefer something like Poweramp - there are many different apps to choose from!

Voice Control

You can add a microphone in order to use Google Assistant voice control. You can plug in a USB webcam with built in microphone like this one which is plug and play:

Alternatively, to use an standard analogue microphone connect a USB sound adapter such as this one:

Note though that with this adapter you need to modify a text config file on the Odroid, otherwise the audio output is diverted to the audio out on the sound adapter instead of the SPDIF on the Odroid (unless this is what you want). See this thread for more information:

Bluetooth audio streaming

I enable this option by default with all JagDroid systems I supply. Pair your phone with the JagDroid bluetooth (search for bluetooth device 'JagDroid'), then simply play music or video on your phone and it will be received by the Odroid and played through your car speakers
